Maidstone Borough Council is seeking views on proposals to redevelop 52–58 London Road, including Aylesbury House and the two neighbouring properties. Aylesbury House has previously been used as a hotel, bed and breakfast and, most recently, as temporary accommodation for single homeless households. The building now requires significant repairs and investment. The council is therefore proposing to redevelop the wider site as part of its 1,000 Homes initiative, which aims to provide good-quality housing for local residents.

The site is on the A20, close to Maidstone town centre. It is within walking distance of shops, public transport connections and Maidstone’s three railway stations. The proposal would involve demolishing the existing buildings at 52–58 London Road and replacing them with an apartment building containing 26 one- and two-bedroom homes and 10 parking spaces.

The design has been developed to respond to the surrounding area, including the nearby Grade II listed White Horse public house and the taller Wicken House. The proposals also include hard and soft landscaping and measures to support biodiversity.Proposed street scene elevation

Maidstone Borough Council is bringing forward the scheme, with BPTW acting as the architectural team. The project team is preparing a detailed planning application, which is expected to be submitted to the council in late 2026. Once submitted, the planning application will be available to view through the council’s website and will be considered through the formal planning process.

This consultation gives residents and other interested parties an opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback before the planning application is submitted.
