Help shape the future plan for accommodating Maidstone’s Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople communities
Maidstone is committed to meeting the housing needs of the borough’s Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople communities in a sustainable way. This includes promoting an integrated co-existence between existing and future sites and wider local communities; balancing the needs of all communities whilst protecting the natural and built environment.
As part of this plan, Maidstone Borough Council would like to hear from you about both the current and future provision of Gypsy and Traveller pitches and Travelling Showpeople plots in the borough. We are particularly keen to hear ideas on how we might best meet the needs of our gypsy, traveller and travelling showpeople communities and what sort of planning matters our policies should address. This could be particular design characteristics of sites, or ideas on suitable, sustainable locations for future sites.
One of the ways we are collecting these views is through a mapping exercise. The map allows you to add markers to the map. For example, you can show us where in the borough you think are suitable areas for locating future sites.
How can you get involved?
Map- Using the pins please mark the locations you want to tell us about. You can zoom in to enlarge the map and see more detail. Once you have placed your pins, use the comment box to tell us your thoughts on the planning matters you want to draw to our attention. You can also upload a photo if you want to.
DPD Feedback - Review the draft DPD and submit comments.
Consultation closes: 5pm on 17 April 2023.
What next: The information you provide will help us to understand what you like or dislike about existing site provision in terms of location and design, and how we might plan to meet the future accommodation needs of the gypsy, traveller and travelling showpeople communities. This will help us draft the next stage of the Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Development Plan Document.
