Consultation has concluded
Maidstone Museum is at an exciting phase of reimagining its role in the wider community and is refreshing and contemporising its Gallery spaces. The Museum has been fortunate in securing a second round of external funding to reinvigorate and renew the Museum’s Local History Gallery.
Museum staff are working with local communities to shape proposals for the new displays and would like your input into the existing collections and whether it feels relevant and important to the people of Maidstone.
The collections showcased in the Local History Gallery represent the everyday lives of people in the borough over the generations, from many different backgrounds and cultures. These collections and stories are used to share the borough’s rich histories.
During the focus group sessions we will discuss the types of objects and experiences that people would like to see featured in the new gallery and how objects and information should be presented. We will also discuss possible alternative uses for museum space e.g. community workshops, meeting spaces, after school activities etc.
The focus group sessions are available to anyone living in Maidstone Borough aged 18 years or over. We are particularly keen to hear from residents who have visited the Museum in the last year.
The sessions are being held on:
9th September
10th September
All sessions will take place in the Museum and start at 6pm and are expected to end by 8:30.
Light refreshments will be provided.
How do I register my interest?
If you are interested in participating, please register via this link by 25th August. In this form we will ask you about your age, your postcode, gender, ethnicity, economic activity, when you last visited the museum and which sessions you are able to attend.
We want to ensure that those selected for the focus groups are a representative mix of members that reflect the wider diversity of the borough. If we get oversubscribed and you are not selected to join a focus group at this time, we would welcome your involvement in future engagement about Maidstone Museum.
We will let you know by 2nd September if you have been allocated a place and send further details of the focus groups.
