Site Map Willington Street SiteMaidstone Borough Council is inviting people to share their views on the proposal to develop a pump track on part of the former Willington Street Park & Ride site. It is proposed that the remainder of the site be used to create a natural open space focused on rewilding and biodiversity enhancements, with the opportunity for community activities and climate change engagement on site in the future.

A pump track is a purpose-built circuit track for cycling but can be used by all wheeled sports including mountain bikes, BMX bikes, WCMX Wheelchairs, skateboards and scooters. A pump track’s form means that users can generate and control their speed solely by shifting their weight and pushing into the track’s features - 'pumping'. Pump tracks can provide a physical workout and development skills across all wheeled sports.

A pump track will be a valuable addition to Maidstone’s sport facilities and a fantastic opportunity to promote wellbeing through healthy outdoor activity. Pump tracks are a great facility suitable for all ages and for users of various types of wheeled equipment at varying levels of competence.

The proposal to install a pump track within Maidstone was identified through the development of the Corporate Strategy. The primary motivation for this project is to provide young people with the opportunity to develop an active, healthy and social lifestyle. This will be balanced with the potential environmental impact on the site to ensure that it can also deliver enhanced biodiversity and is sensitive to the local community.
