Consultation has concluded
In 2019 Maidstone Borough Council declared a climate emergency and pledged to achieve as close to carbon neutral as possible by 2030. Carbon Neutrality also referred to as Net-Zero can be achieved through reducing existing emissions and actively removing greenhouse gases. At a borough wide-scale, in accordance with national government targets, we have set out carbon reduction milestones to reach near to Net-Zero by 2041.
In October 2020 a Biodiversity and Climate Change Action Plan was agreed and in April 2023 this plan was reviewed and updated as part of the scheduled review. The Biodiversity and Climate Change Action Plan covers nine key themes: Active travel and green transportation; decarbonising and insulating homes and buildings; generating renewable energy; reducing waste; adapting to climate change; enhancing and increasing biodiversity; making our estate carbon neutral; communications and engagement; and sustainable decision-making processes and governance.
In addition to seeking feedback on the themes and actions in the plan we are also interested in the actions you are taking, or are willing to take, to tackle the climate and biodiversity emergencies and the barriers that may prevent you from taking these actions.
