Springfield Library Site

The former Springfield Library site is a 0.59 Hectare plot located north of Maidstone town centre. The site is off Chatham Road Roundabout on Sandling Road. There is a large-scale area of regeneration to the south of the site which also forms part of the context for regeneration of this important site.

A planning application for the redevelopment of the site and construction of 170 dwellings was submitted in 2017 by the previous owner, but this was refused in 2019 on several grounds including massing, sustainability, connectivity, lack of public spaces/ amenity and heritage impacts.

Maidstone Borough Council purchased the site in 2022 and has developed these new proposals in discussion with planning officers and working with a professional consultancy team who have carried out numerous studies to help inform the design approach to date.

Summary of Proposals

Maidstone Borough Council is bringing forward proposals for the redevelopment of the Former Springfield Library site, to be known as “Springfield Place”. The team is seeking to deliver a regeneration project with:

  • 115 high quality homes - 100% dual aspect
  • A mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed apartments
  • Versatile public spaces
  • Quality landscaping and play space provision
  • Excellent transport links
